🩷My Impression of Bibi🩷

🩷A Cute Woman Who Moves to Her Own Rhythm🩷
I've always thought Bibi was an incredibly cool woman.
There's that husky voice full of warmth, her sophisticated urban groove, and the effortless confidence of someone who doesn't seem easily swayed by other people.
But the longer I spend with her, the more I realize there's another side to her, too.
She's whimsical, a little lazy, surprisingly playful, and very well aware of just how cute she is.
That's the Bibi I love.
There's definitely strength in her singing voice. But to me, she isn't simply a woman whose greatest talent is singing with sheer power.
In fact, a more relaxed approach or a rich, intimate vocal performance can sometimes suit her even better.
Her voice is full of warmth and a certain sultry richness, yet Bibi herself seems just a little languid.
Maybe that contrast is exactly where her charm lies.
🩷Vocal Samples🩷
I'll be talking quite a bit about Bibi's singing voice in this article, so I've put together a few vocal samples.
Each vocal mode has its own sound, and I've included a short introduction to each one.
A few samples are duets with other members, too.
Feel free to give them a listen before reading on! 🎧

🩷A Groove That Pulses with Heat🩷
One of the things I find especially interesting about Bibi's singing voice is her sense of rhythm.
She has a groove that's entirely her own.
There was a time when I tried making fine adjustments to her delivery so it would fit the rhythm of a song more closely.
But no matter what I did, Bibi's own singing habits kept coming through.
Sometimes, instead of trying to steer her toward the delivery I had in mind, I get a much better take by letting her sing freely for a while.
In the end, I went with Bibi's version.
This happens fairly often, actually.
When I listen closely and wonder why this keeps happening, it sounds to me as though her consonants come in with quite a bit of force, while her vowels stretch out just a little.
The moment a word begins, and the sound that follows.
It feels as though there's a subtle difference in timing between the two.
The rhythm should be right on the beat, yet the way she places the weight of her voice feels a little different.
There's a sense of forward momentum, but her voice leaves a lingering resonance behind.
Maybe it's this combination that creates Bibi's distinctive groove.
Of course, this is just what I'm hearing. I haven't done a detailed analysis to establish which acoustic characteristics are actually responsible.
But when I give her a rap part, this quality becomes especially easy to hear.
Even when she's singing a phrase I've prepared for her, it naturally turns into Bibi's own flow.
She's singing what I asked her to sing, yet somehow, before I know it, she's made it hers.
Of the four members, I feel she's particularly good at styles like rap, where rhythm and the way you deliver the words matter so much.
I can easily imagine R&B suiting her, too.
Her voice already has its own sense of groove, so working with her natural singing habits can sometimes produce something much more interesting than trying to smooth them out.
I try meeting her singing style halfway.
And when I do, she brings me something even cooler than I expected.
🩷Strength and Languor🩷
Bibi is sometimes seen as a tough woman.
Her voice has real presence, and there's a slightly rough-edged appeal to its husky sound.
Python, in particular, brings that biting sharpness right to the front.
But I don't want to describe Bibi through that quality alone.
Standard has a groove full of heat.
Leopard has a lively, bouncing lightness.
In Dalmatian, that heat grows a little hazy, revealing a more languid side of her.
And Zebra brings out a sleek, sophisticated, distinctly urban kind of allure.
They're all Bibi, yet each mode shows a remarkably different expression.
What I especially love is the way she sounds when she's relaxed.
Her voice has a strong presence, but she doesn't sound as though she's singing at full power all the time.
She might seem a little languid most of the time, then suddenly come out strong when the moment calls for it.
There's a certain ease to that.
Perhaps Bibi's strength isn't about being able to overpower everyone at any moment. It's about knowing when she wants to put her strength into something.
When she wants to sing powerfully, she does. When she feels like singing with a more laid-back delivery, she chooses that instead.
She can change her expression to suit her mood, and every one of those expressions is still unmistakably hers.
That's another part of what makes her Bibi to me.
🩷The One Who Gets the Music Moving🩷
Bibi does some interesting things when I have her sing with the other members, too.
Sometimes a unison part comes through a little too strongly. Other times, a passage needs a bit more body.
Adding Bibi's harmony can make everything blend together surprisingly well.
That doesn't mean her voice automatically blends perfectly with anyone I pair her with, though.
With Momo in particular, I feel their voices can overlap quite a lot in density and resonance.
They both have pretty rich voices.
Depending on how I layer them, their frequencies can clash and make the sound a little muddy.
But I wouldn't say their voices are a bad match.
If anything, what interests me is the difference in their rhythm.
To my ears, Bibi creates a forward-moving groove through the energy of her consonants and the lingering sound of her vowels.
Momo, on the other hand, seems to hold his words back just a little, creating a flow that draws the listener inward.
There are similarities in their vocal textures, but the way their rhythms move is different.
And when all four of them sing together, that difference can give them distinct roles that work well together.
If Momo brings stability to the song as a whole, Bibi can add a little movement to a performance that's become almost too neatly put together.
Sometimes, just one phrase from her gives the entire song a natural groove.
I think of Bibi as one of MAJOLICAMAIDEN's mood-makers.
That said, I have no idea whether she's consciously thinking, “I'm going to get everyone hyped up!”
It feels more like Bibi starts singing in her own rhythm, and before anyone realizes it, everyone else has fallen into step.
That's much more like her, I think.
🩷A Cute Girl Who Can Be Cool🩷
For a long time, I saw Bibi as a mature, cool woman.
But when I had her sing a love song once, my impression of her changed a little.
When she's singing with someone else, she often sounds like a woman who's completely at ease. In a solo, though, I discovered a surprisingly cute side of her.
It's not that her voice suddenly became someone else's. I'm sure the song choice played a part, too.
Even so, when Bibi sang about romantic feelings, there was a sense of closeness, as though she were standing right there alongside the rest of us.
Getting happy over something the person you like says, or getting a little annoyed with them.
I realized that those perfectly ordinary feelings of romance suited her beautifully.
Maybe I'd been paying too much attention to how cool she was until then.
Rather than a woman who's never affected by romance, I think Bibi is a woman who can fall in love without losing sight of herself.
If she likes someone, their words might matter to her.
She might have days when things don't go her way and she feels down about it.
If something makes her sad, she's sad. If she doesn't like something, she doesn't like it.
And after she's had a good complain, I can imagine her getting back on her feet and walking on at her own pace.
I haven't established any specific details about the relationships she may have had in the past.
This is simply how I see her right now.
And when I realized all this, it struck me all over again.
Bibi really is just a cute girl, isn't she?
If I told her that, I can practically see her giving me a look that says, “You're only figuring that out now?”
Fair point.
🩷Choosing What Cute Means to Her🩷
I can't talk about Bibi without talking about fashion.
She seems like the kind of girl who enjoys trends and designer brands.
But I don't think she'd choose what to wear just because something happens to be fashionable right now.
What matters in the end is whether she thinks it's cute on her, today.
That's how I imagine Bibi's approach to fashion.
Her design brings together all kinds of influences: gal fashion, a slightly rebellious edge reminiscent of Japanese yankii style, and sophisticated urban fashion, among others.
I'm not trying to recreate any one particular era or style exactly.
It's more like she kept choosing the things she liked, and this is where she ended up.
She picks out clothes to match her mood, puts on the makeup she likes, and heads out into the city.
What she's planning to do that day probably matters, of course. But so does the question of what kind of version of herself she wants to be today.
I imagine that's part of what goes through her mind as she gets ready.
There's something similar about her singing voice.
Sometimes, instead of deciding every tiny detail of her delivery myself, I get a more appealing take by making use of her own vocal habits.
Because she has a rhythm of her own, she keeps that unmistakable Bibi presence even when her voice is layered with someone else's.
That's the kind of person I've gradually come to see through listening to her voice.
Of course, I don't imagine she always knows exactly what she likes or goes through life without ever changing her mind.
She might buy an outfit thinking it's cute, then go off it later.
If she falls in love, she might want to try wearing something different from her usual style.
But she'd still want to make that choice herself.
That's the girl I see in Bibi.
Even if her idea of what's cute changes, the fact that she's choosing for herself doesn't.
And I love that about her.
🩷While Meiji Was Asleep🩷
Bibi was first introduced as Meiji's friend shortly before Meiji went to sleep.
Even after Meiji's release came to an end, Bibi and Wistaria waited for the day they could stand alongside her again.
Bibi is precious to me, too, because she was there with me through that period.
But I didn't create her to replace Meiji.
Meiji has a charm that calls to mind dreams and fairy tales.
Bibi, on the other hand, felt like someone you might actually meet on a city street.
There's something distinctly human and warm about her voice.
It sounds like a voice that could keep walking through the city even on a day when she's a little tired or just not in the mood.
I feel as though that easygoing quality has helped me more times than I can count.
When I find myself taking something too seriously, listening to Bibi can help me look at it from a slightly different angle.
It's not as though she's telling me everything will be okay.
Things you hate are still things you hate. Things that are a pain are still a pain.
But setting that aside, what shall we do next?
That's the sort of woman I imagine her to be.
And of course, I don't want to put the responsibility of saving anyone on her shoulders.
Bibi is a girl who lives for herself.
Yet somehow, she can make the people around her feel a little more at ease, too.
I really love that effortless brightness of hers.
🩷Heartbeat Runway🩷
I've chosen “Heartbeat Runway” as the title of Bibi's exhibition.
A heartbeat and a runway.
I picture her walking along, with the city gradually finding its rhythm in her footsteps.
I didn't come up with the phrase intending it to have any particularly deep meaning.
But the more I've thought about Bibi's voice and personality, the more the title has started to feel like her.
Her singing voice has a groove all its own.
When she sings, the music starts to move.
Even when I imagine her walking through the city, it feels like the atmosphere around her might change a little.
But perhaps she isn't trying to attract anyone's attention at all.
She's simply wearing clothes she likes and walking however she likes.
That feels very Bibi to me.
She doesn't need to compare herself with anyone else or come first.
She doesn't have to act cool and strong every moment of the day.
If she feels cute being herself today, that's enough.
When I had her sing a love song before, I discovered a sweetness I hadn't known was there.
I'm sure I'll keep finding new expressions in her whenever I give her another song to sing.
Just when I think she's cool, she turns out to be unexpectedly sweet.
Just when she looks tough, there's a hint of languor.
She seems so composed, yet maybe even she has days when love sends her emotions up and down.
All of those sides are still the same Bibi.
Whether she's wearing different clothes from yesterday or singing a different song, she's still herself.
I want to keep discovering new sides of her through her voice.
She sings in her own rhythm and walks on her own two feet.
Somewhere in a city today, I can almost picture Bibi walking along with the kind of cuteness she's chosen for herself.
