💜Momo Kissme's "Attachment"💜

💜A Man Who Can't Stop Loving💜

I really love Momo's singing voice.

It's sweet, sultry, and somehow a little affectionate and approachable.

His lower notes have a calm, masculine quality, but when he reaches the higher registers, he shows us a whole different side of himself.

Sometimes, all he's doing is singing gently, and somehow it goes straight to my heart.

Why does he have to make everything sound so sweet?

I've had him sing all kinds of songs while wondering what kind of man I could discover through that voice.

And little by little, the picture that emerged was of a man with an enormous capacity for love.

Although his affection is a little complicated.

I get the feeling that Momo cares deeply about Meiji, Bibi, and Wistaria.

And the feelings he has for each of them seem to have something almost romantic about them, too.

That doesn't mean all three are his girlfriends, of course.

For that matter, there are still things I don't know about what kind of relationships Momo himself actually wants.

So, we've established that he's full of love.

But where, exactly, is all that love going?

Today, I'd like to talk about Momo's attachments, drawing on what I've discovered while listening to his singing voice.

💜Vocal Samples💜

💜The Secret Behind That Sweet Voice💜

Whenever I talk about Momo's singing voice, I often describe it as "sweet."

But by sweet, I don't mean a voice that's simply gentle and soft.

His voice has a substantial richness to it.

The low and midrange, in particular, sound dense to me, almost as though there's heat gathered deep inside the sound.

To my ears, his resonance is also a little dark, with the weight of his voice seeming to sit farther back in his mouth.

There's something about this that reminds me of Bibi's voice.

They both have relatively rich voices, but I hear a difference in the way they resonate.

Bibi sounds almost as though she's bouncing the sound off her lips.

Momo sounds as though he's producing it somewhere a little farther back.

Of course, I haven't measured their actual resonance or confirmed where it's occurring. This is purely a difference I hear when I listen to them.

There's something else I'm curious about, too: his vowels.

Momo's vowels seem to have a certain roundness.

Rather than pushing each sound out with a sharp edge, it's as though he wraps it in something round before offering it to you.

Maybe that roundness, along with the richness of his voice itself, has something to do with what makes him sound so sweet.

That said, I still can't properly explain why.

I've been listening to him for such a long time. You'd think I'd have figured it out by now.

But I can't shake the feeling that there's a softness to his voice.

Low, full-bodied, and masculine, yet gentle.

Even when he sings powerfully, there's a distinctly human warmth left somewhere deep in the sound.

I love that quality of his voice.

💜Emotions That Linger in the Words💜

There's another thing I love about Momo's singing voice.

His feelings come through so easily.

He doesn't necessarily have to sing loudly to express emotion.

Even without crying out or making his pain painfully obvious, I can sense something lingering behind the words.

I once went back and listened to some recordings from around the time I first met him.

Back then, I didn't understand his singing habits nearly as well as I do now, so my vocal directions and mixing were different, too.

But listening to those recordings again, I realized that his distinctly Momo-like way of expressing emotion was already there.

Rather than throwing painful feelings out into the world, he seemed to be pressing them inward.

Like someone quietly enduring something without raising his voice.

I think that delicacy is particularly easy to hear when I have him sing in a relatively flat, understated way.

If he belts out the high notes, he can show a much bolder, more dazzling side of himself.

But sometimes, when he holds back, the shape of the emotion becomes even clearer.

It comes through perfectly well without him raising his voice.

In fact, I sometimes find myself paying even more attention when he's singing quietly.

This is especially interesting when I compare him with the other members.

Meiji can sound as though she's expressing emotions within a story of her own.

Wistaria can sound as though she understands the feelings in the lyrics but processes them somewhere within herself.

Momo, on the other hand, sounds as though those emotions remain inside his voice.

Almost as though he's feeling something himself and it slips out through his singing.

It's the kind of voice that might give him away to the listener, even if he thought he was hiding his feelings.

Of course, that's an impression I get from his singing voice, not a statement about what he's actually experienced in life.

I can imagine all sorts of emotions from the voice he has now without deciding every detail of his past.

By following those impressions, I've gradually come to know a little more about Momo as a man.

💜A Voice That Follows a Little Behind💜

I feel that Momo has a distinctive approach to rhythm, too.

If Bibi's groove seems to move forward, Momo's center of gravity feels as though it sits a little farther back.

He seems to hold his words for a fraction of a moment, drawing the flow of the music toward himself.

When I have him sing with the girls, that can make it sound as though his voice is following theirs from just a little behind.

That impression sometimes gets me thinking about his personality.

Maybe Momo isn't the kind of man who always tries to stand in front of the girls and make himself the center of attention.

Of course, his voice has more than enough presence of its own.

Give him a solo and he'll show off a slightly self-conscious, stylish kind of cool. Sometimes he even manages to sound seductive without my asking him to.

I didn't ask for that, by the way.

But when all four of them sing together, the way he uses that presence changes.

I sometimes hear him following the girls' voices, catching them, and helping stabilize the sound as a whole.

That's the role his voice seems to play.

Still, whether his rhythm actually falls behind the other three in a given song is something I'd have to check on a song-by-song basis.

What I'm describing here is a tendency I hear, and the kind of character I imagine from it.

In my mind, Momo seems like a man who pays close attention to the person beside him.

If they want to move forward, he won't try to stop them for no reason.

But he'll stay close enough to reach out immediately if something happens.

That's the picture his singing voice brings to mind.

💜Does He Become the Responsible One When They Sing Together?💜

Speaking of Momo, I really need to talk about how much work he ends up doing when I have all four members sing.

Solo parts, unison sections, harmonies, lower-octave reinforcement, shouts, and little interjections.

Before I know it, he's singing for almost the entire song.

Just how many people's jobs is this man planning to do?

There are moments when a passage sits in an awkward range for the girls, or when their voices clash and become hard to distinguish.

Sometimes, adding Momo's voice to those sections pulls everything together with surprising ease.

I can't help picturing him noticing that everyone's having trouble and saying something like, "Want me to sing, too?"

But even with all those parts, the finished song doesn't necessarily feel like "Momo's song."

You can still hear the girls properly.

He's singing plenty himself, yet it feels as though he's letting the other three shine.

Watching him work like that makes me want to imagine him as a sort of responsible guardian.

But that doesn't quite tell the whole story, either.

Momo joined the group after the other three.

Among the four, he also has a bit of a youngest-member role.

And yet when I layer their voices, there are times when he sounds like the most dependable person there.

What a strange man.

That doesn't mean he always stays in the background, though.

There are intros and memorable phrases that make me think, "This part has to be Momo!"

Sometimes the entire atmosphere of a song changes as soon as his voice steps forward.

So he's not simply a supporting vocalist, either.

When it's his turn to sing, he confidently takes the lead.

When someone else needs support, he's happy to take that role instead.

That versatility feels like another expression of his particular kind of love.

Still, perhaps I should spread the workload around a little more.

Something for me to reflect on as I keep producing songs.

💜Many Voices, One Man💜

Sometimes, comparing Momo's vocal modes gives me a strange feeling.

The girls' expressions change between modes, too, but I generally feel as though I'm hearing the same person singing in different ways.

With Momo, though, there are times when he sounds like an entirely different man.

And somehow, every single one of those voices is unmistakably Momo.

I once thought that if the girls were singers, Momo would be an actor.

One person who can play completely different roles.

Here's a quick introduction to each of his voices.

Standard has a direct, unreserved kind of sensuality.

Gala brings out a dazzling confidence and effortless flair.

Vanilla has a soft sweetness, as though his affection is showing through.

Uvula has an intelligent, regal allure.

In Mandala, his already intense personality comes through in a heavier, more distorted form.

Angela has a relaxed, slightly affectionate sweetness, like something he'd show someone he feels comfortable around.

Chala brings his giddy, playful side to the front.

Tequila is a nasty case of being drunk, through and through.

And Zilla adds a fang-baring growl.

Put them all together, and he's a remarkably busy man.

Some of these modes sound so different that you could practically treat them as separate characters.

But I don't think of them as different men.

They're all different sides of Momo.

And despite how different those voices are, I still hear a sweetness running through every one of them.

Their sensuality takes different forms, and their gentleness shows itself in different ways.

But the same person is there in every voice.

That's what makes him so fascinating to me.

Uvula, in particular, has made me think more about his sense of distance.

It's deep, calm, and mature.

There's sensuality there, too, but it doesn't feel as though he's trying to force his way into my personal space.

Almost as though he could be close to someone without demanding that the relationship become anything more.

And that leaves the listener wanting to move closer of their own accord.

I hear a mature kind of charm in that little bit of space he leaves open.

Of course, not all of his modes have the same sense of distance.

Gala's flamboyance, Mandala's intensity, and Angela's affectionate side each have their own appeal.

He's not a man who possesses only gentle voices.

He's bold, sometimes rough around the edges, and capable of a rather showy kind of cool.

All of those qualities together make him Momo.

💜Calling Cute Things Cute💜

When I think about Momo as a character, I can't leave out his sense of beauty.

I made a rather interesting discovery while working on a music video once.

There was a scene where Momo introduced the three girls, and a video filter made their expressions look unexpectedly eerie for a moment.

It wasn't an effect I'd planned from the beginning.

But while watching the footage back, I found myself thinking:

Momo would probably call this cute, too.

Meiji has a precarious, dreamlike quality.

Bibi has the strength to hold on to her own values.

Wistaria has an aesthetic sensibility that isn't easy to understand.

All three have their own distinctive charms.

And there are sides to each of them that can't be explained by conventional cuteness or straightforward beauty alone.

I don't imagine Momo as a man who would be frightened by those qualities or try to fix them.

Maybe the girls' strangeness and their more precarious sides are attractive to him from the very beginning.

I think Momo has his own ideas of what's "cute," "cool," and "lovable."

An expression someone else finds creepy might look cute to him. He might not even think twice about the parts other people call strange.

He isn't measuring the girls' charms against everyone else's standards.

He looks at Meiji and thinks she's cute.

He looks at Bibi and thinks she's cute.

He looks at Wistaria and thinks she's cute.

I'm sure his reasons are different for each of them.

I love the idea that Momo finds the three of them beautiful and lovable according to his own feelings.

To me, that quality is incredibly important when thinking about his affection.

He isn't trying to turn the girls into his personal ideal of what a woman should be.

Meiji gets to remain Meiji.

Bibi gets to remain Bibi.

Wistaria gets to remain Wistaria.

Perhaps he's the kind of man who would be happy about that.

But I don't want to turn him into a conveniently agreeable man who forgives absolutely anything as long as he can say, "You're cute."

If someone he cares about is about to do something dangerous, he might stop them.

If he doesn't like something, he'll say so. And if he disagrees with someone, I expect he'd tell them that, too.

Loving someone doesn't mean doing absolutely everything they ask.

That feels very Momo to me as well.

💜His Love for the Three Girls💜

Now, this is where things get a little complicated.

I feel that Momo loves Meiji, Bibi, and Wistaria deeply.

I've spent a long time trying to work out how to describe that love.

Simply calling it friendship or familial love doesn't seem quite enough.

With each of the girls, there seems to be something that comes close to romantic feelings.

But that doesn't mean all three are his girlfriends.

And as things stand, I don't get the impression that the girls are returning his affection as romantic love.

He loves them.

But that doesn't mean they're in romantic relationships.

I don't want to force those feelings into a simpler, easier-to-explain arrangement.

For instance, if Momo chose one of them, would his love for the other two disappear?

I don't really think so.

For that matter, I don't think he loves all three for the same reasons.

I imagine he's drawn to different qualities in each of them.

So none of them could simply take another's place.

Perhaps, to Momo, love isn't a matter of competing for a single available seat.

There's an important distinction I want to make here, though.

Loving more than one person isn't the same thing as being in romantic relationships with multiple people.

And loving someone doesn't give you the right to demand that they become your partner.

It would be awfully convenient if things worked that way, wouldn't it?

The people involved get to decide what kind of relationships they want to build.

The three girls have feelings of their own.

No matter how much love Momo gives them, he can't decide what they want or what matters to them on their behalf.

I see Momo as a man who understands that distinction.

That's why I imagine he can express his affection without trying to push a relationship beyond the other person's wishes.

At the same time, it wouldn't feel right to describe his love as completely selfless, as though he wants nothing at all.

He must want to be close to the people he loves.

He'd probably be happy to be relied upon, and there must be times when he wants to do something for them.

He might want to have a place in their happiness, too.

Perhaps that's one of his desires.

Momo isn't a devoted guardian who exists solely for the sake of the three girls.

He's a man with feelings of his own.

💜Loving Someone and Wanting Something in Return💜

I get the feeling that Momo is fairly straightforward about saying what he feels.

If he thinks someone is cute, he says they're cute.

If he loves someone, he tells them he loves them.

I can imagine those words slipping naturally into his everyday conversation.

He's quite a bold man, but maybe, to him, he's just saying what's on his mind.

Still, telling someone "I love you" doesn't necessarily mean he's asking them to be his romantic partner.

I find his sense of distance interesting in that way.

He's bold about showing affection, yet he doesn't seem to take it for granted that the other person will say the same thing back.

The girls don't strike me as women who would easily change their feelings just because Momo expresses his love for them, either.

Receiving affection and returning romantic feelings are two different things, after all.

Maybe that's exactly why Momo can stay beside them.

But being able to respect someone's wishes isn't the same as being incapable of getting hurt.

There may be lonely days when his affection doesn't come across the way he hoped.

If someone doesn't turn to him for help, he might feel a little disappointed.

There must be things he wants for himself, too.

Because he loves someone, he wants to be close.

He wants them to rely on him more.

He wants to be involved in the happiness of the people he cares about.

I think those feelings are part of his love as well.

He isn't erasing all of his own feelings and wishing only for someone else's happiness.

If he did that, we'd lose Momo himself somewhere along the way.

I'd like him to be a man who can have desires of his own while still caring about the other person's feelings.

Of course, there are details I haven't decided yet, including exactly what words he'd use to express himself.

For now, this is the picture of him that's emerged for me from his singing voice and the relationships among the four.

💜Sensuality and Gentleness💜

Momo's singing voice has a considerable amount of sensuality.

Whether I ask him to sing softly or down in his lower register, it sometimes appears from the most unexpected places.

Could you please sing a little more normally?

Not that I don't love him precisely because his voice sounds like that.

Still, I don't think of his sensuality as something that exists only to help him seduce women.

There's an intimacy to his voice, as though he's coming closer to someone.

But sometimes, even when he sounds close, it doesn't feel like he's trying to pull that person toward him against their will.

I can imagine him speaking to someone in a calm voice.

He seems like he'd listen properly, too.

Even when he's close to someone, he wouldn't necessarily rush to push the relationship forward.

That's the sort of man I picture.

But that doesn't mean he has no desires of his own.

There must be times when he wants to touch someone he loves or feels like approaching them himself.

I don't want to portray Momo as a man who's somehow above those feelings.

Quite the opposite. Because he has desires of his own, I'd like him to be someone who thinks about what the other person wants, too.

Wanting to get closer doesn't mean the other person necessarily feels the same way.

So he can tell them how he feels.

Watch how they respond.

And stop if his advances aren't welcome.

That's the kind of character I associate with the mature ease I hear in his voice.

💜The Straightforward Side of a Flashy Man💜

Momo's design is full of bright, cute details: pink, hearts, piercings, and more.

A large frame dressed in sweet colors, with a slightly showy air about him.

People seeing him for the first time might imagine a man who's experienced at playing the field, or someone who looks at home in a glamorous nightlife scene.

Some people see a feminine beauty in him, too. I've even been asked whether he's gay or transgender.

It's interesting how many different impressions a single character design can inspire.

But I didn't use Momo's pinks and hearts as symbols meant to indicate those identities.

He's a man who wears the things he likes.

He probably enjoys looking cool, and I doubt he minds standing out.

He chooses cute things and cool things because he likes them.

I love that about his sense of style.

And as I've spent more time with his singing voice, I've come to love something else about him, too.

He's straightforward.

He tries to look cool, but his feelings slip into his voice. He seems so composed, yet he can't help going a little soft around the people who matter to him.

I find that side of him rather adorable.

His kindness probably wouldn't always come out in gentle words, either.

If someone he cares about were doing something dangerous, he might stop them in a fairly firm voice.

If he wanted them to get some rest, he might say "Go to bed already" instead of giving them a long explanation.

Taken on their own, his words might sometimes sound a little rough.

But I think there's genuine concern for the other person behind them.

Of course, I don't want him to be nothing more than a dependable man, either.

I'm sure Momo himself would be happy if someone looked after him.

Being doted on, being relied upon, and sometimes being the one who reaches out for affection.

Here's this enormous man who spends so much time trying to look cool, yet he can be completely open about wanting affection from someone he loves.

That suits him beautifully, I think.

He can be dependable and he can show off a little. But he doesn't have to be the person supporting everyone else every moment of the day.

It's perfectly natural for him to be cherished and to lean on someone, too.

💜Lovestruck Darling💜

I've chosen the words "Lovestruck Darling" as the title of Momo's exhibition.

A darling who's fallen in love.

I really love that combination of words.

Momo seems like a man who's good at expressing his affection.

Complimenting the people he cares about, telling them he loves them, and occasionally saying something a little theatrical.

I can picture him doing all of those things.

But being good at expressing love doesn't necessarily mean he's got love itself all figured out.

He wants to cherish someone he loves.

He wants them to be happy.

But he also wants to be part of that happiness.

And somewhere along the way, his own feelings may grow bigger than he expected.

That's the sort of man I imagine.

He doesn't have every answer when it comes to loving someone or being loved.

If he were a preacher who understood absolutely everything about love, that would be a problem in its own way.

He's someone who loves, and someone who can be loved.

He wants to make other people happy while wanting happiness for himself, too.

There's something wonderfully human about that.

Momo's voice has coolness, sweetness, and sensuality.

And yet, no matter how stylishly he sings, there are times when emotion seems to spill out from the edges of his voice.

I love that straightforwardness.

Perhaps he's good at telling people he loves them.

But he doesn't seem like a man who can remain completely unaffected by love himself.

There must be days when he loses a little of his composure over the people he loves.

If anything, that feels even more like Momo to me.

💜The Word "Attachment"💜

After talking about all of this, I still think the word "attachment" suits Momo.

Love is a major theme for him.

But his affection doesn't seem to consist of nothing more than a string of beautiful words.

Spending time with someone and getting to know their voice and little habits.

Discovering sides of them you hadn't seen before, and gradually finding more and more things to love.

Having more people to care about doesn't mean that the people and things you've treasured all along suddenly disappear.

That's how I imagine his love: something that builds up over time.

Meiji has her own particular charm.

Bibi has hers.

Wistaria has hers.

And Momo has qualities that belong to him alone, too.

I want to keep discovering not only how deeply he cares for the three girls, but also what kind of man he is in their eyes.

There are still so many sides of his voice I haven't discovered.

His deep, calm voice, the voice that shines in his upper register, and the rough voice that growls.

Sometimes an emotion I couldn't hear in one vocal mode comes through when I have him sing in another.

Each time, it feels as though I'm meeting a new Momo.

With this many modes, it's hard for my understanding of him to keep up.

And yet, no matter which voice I hear, he's still the same man.

That sweetness is always there.

He can be showy, yet somehow straightforward.

Even when he sings powerfully, distinctly human emotions remain deep inside his voice.

I want to keep having him sing all kinds of songs.

Not only love songs, but cheerful songs, cool songs, and songs that deal with feelings that are a little painful, too.

I'm sure every new song will show me something about Momo I haven't seen before.

And what does he himself want? What kinds of love will he receive?

I don't know yet.

There's just one thing.

I don't want Momo to be a man who exists only to make the three girls happy.

I want him to find happiness of his own, too.

Standing beside the people he cares about, showing off, fooling around, and sometimes letting himself be the one who's doted on.

I imagine him talking happily about the people he loves again today.

His voice is just as sweet as ever.

And somehow, I suspect his affection comes through even more clearly than he realizes.

I want to keep listening to that voice and looking forward to discovering what kind of happiness Momo himself will find.
